The short story Harrison Bergeron and the animation movie “The Incredibles” by Pixar have the same theme of fairness between the society and the world.
In the story Harrison Bergeron, The society in which the story took place is very worried about competition. The leaders of the society put handicaps on people’s body so, everyone is equal in the society and no one will be different then any other people. Many people were smarter then other before the handicaps. The authorities thought that the smart people will compete with the less smart people and bring harm. Harrison’s dad is a very intelligent man. But, the handicaps make him similar to everyone in his society. So, no one can tell each other that they are better. Also, in the animation movie ‘The Incredibles’, super heroes were banned from the communities and the societies. Average people thought that, super heroes brought a lot of harm so everyone should be same to each other. That’s why, the super family started to live an average life. Their children were also not allowed to use super powers as they may hurt other children or cheat in different activities. The incredibles son, Dash, has a power of swift. So he can run like lightning. His parents don’t let him use the power because, he can cheat on the school activities. So it is not fair to him. Everyone have their own special skills. But in these societies they are not allowed to use.
Also In the story Harrison Bergeron, the society is very strict. They don’t let the people with smartness use their smartness. They are handicapped and are not able to use their brain to do stuff. Harrison is a very smart kid but his handicaps made him really a foolish kid. Because of his extra smartness the handicap authority take him away every year on a particular time as, he may bring harm or destroy the society’s peace. In the Incredibles, the super’s are told not to use their super power anymore cause the normal people think the supers will harm the community, which is bad for the society. In Incredibles, Mr. Incredible was told to stop of being what he is as a super and become a regular man. Because, a long time a go, because of him harm was done to the community.
So in both stories the society is very restricted and strict. They are similar in ways. The society should be more polite to the citizens. As, everyone is different and they all have different ways of doing different things and to express. In these texts the society is cruel to people and very strict.
